Enriching the Lives of Others
For the Media:  Aaron's House Media Information

The Aaron House is not only a place to build on your health, the house is built healthy.  Aaron's House is a
Green Built Home by NARI-Madison

The Aaron House has 4 levels finished for comfortable living space.

A third floor attic was converted to a sunny lounging room. Filled with comfortable chairs and couches, the student-residents host sober activities with friends. This space is perfect for relaxing with a book. A large screen high definition TV was donated to the house and the guys host sporting event, video game, and movie nights up stairs.

The second floor is the bedroom area. Each of the four student-residents has his own room. A brand new full bathroom is shared by the guys on this level.

The main floor was completely renovated and 3/4 bath was installed. A new kitchen with corian counters, oak cabinets, and new appliances is to the back of the house. The front room is the living room. A formal dining room was converted to a bedroom for the House-Mentor.

The lowest level has a finished space for exercise equipment. This is the Healthy Inspirations Fitness room with six work-out stations.  The laundry area has the wash machine and gas dryer.

In the backyard, parking space was abandonded and brick patio was built. Area for a garden is available for a future project. There is still space for parking mo-peds and bicycles. Each student-resident has access to a high quality Gary Fisher street bicycle.

A short one block walk up the hill behind the house takes you to a public access point on Lake Mendota. The house has a canoe for exploring the lake and nearby Yahara River. Walk two blocks up Gorham and you are at James Madison Park where boats, sail boards, and kayaks are available for renting at the publick beach. This is a great beach for swimming, volleyball, pick-up basketball, and summer recreation.

Fees: As of February 2008 Student-Residents pay an occupancy fee of $550.00 per month. Access to the House Mentor and Clinical Direcotr, gas/electric/sewer/water, recycling and trash collection costs are included. Student residents provide their own food. Occupancy fees are subject to change.

Pilot Project

Aaron's House is an alcohol and drug free home where young men live in support of one another while continuing their education.

Residents of  Aaron's House may enroll in courses at any of a number of post high school educational institutions in Madison, WI. They work part time jobs, and participate in recovery programs of their choice. The atmosphere of the House is one of Positively Good Times --- clean and sober.

The Aaron J. Meyer Foundation, Inc. connects the residents with good people from anywhere who are able to share their experience and hope. We create opportunities for the young men to walk shoulder to shoulder with informal "mentors"  on an adventure of  growth to be better men. Doors which once appeared closed to a young man, are nudged open by people strong enough to share.

As a Pilot Project, everything we learn is shared with persons interested in duplicating Aaron's House in their community.  We look to the near future when another house is available in Madison for young women in recovery.
